Hockley Angling Club is a peaceful, gated fishery nestled in the countryside near Rayleigh, Essex. Spanning 5.5 acres and offering three distinct lakes, our club provides a tranquil escape for anglers of all abilities. Whether you're a seasoned carp hunter or just discovering the joys of fishing, you'll find a welcoming community and beautifully maintained waters waiting for you.

Our lakes are designed to offer variety, comfort, and year-round enjoyment. The Match Lake, approximately three-quarters of an acre, is ideal for competitive and pleasure fishing. With 15 well-spaced platforms and depths reaching 5 feet, it’s stocked with a lively mix of F1 Carp, Barbel, Chub, Bream, Tench, Perch, Crucian Carp, Rudd, Roach, and the occasional Eel or Gudgeon. The absence of large carp allows anglers to fish light and enjoy consistent sport in a peaceful setting.

The Mixed Lake, around 1¾ acres, is a scenic gem featuring three islands, secluded margins, and 24 fishing platforms—including a dedicated disabled-access peg just 3 metres from its designated parking space. This lake is stocked with a rich variety of species including Mirror and Common Carp up to 20lb, Barbel to 8lb, Tench, Bream, Perch, Ide, Crucian Carp, Chub, and plenty of silverfish. With its diverse stock and natural layout, every cast offers a surprise, and pleasure weights remain strong throughout the seasons.

Our Carp Lake, the largest at approximately 2 acres, reaches depths of 9 feet and features 17 double platforms. It’s stocked predominantly with Mirror and Common Carp to 21lb, alongside Barbel, Perch, Bream, Ide, and quality Roach. This lake offers a more focused experience for those seeking larger fish in a quiet, spacious environment.

Our Story

Founded in 1987 by Robin and Janice Payne, Hockley Angling Club began as a dream beside their newly built home, which was completed in 2005. In 2025, we proudly took over the ownership and management—embracing the club as our family’s home and a shared sanctuary for our members. It’s a place of peace, passion, and community, cherished by us, our children, and every angler who visits.

All lakes are securely gated, with onsite toilet facilities available year-round. Membership is currently limited to preserve the peaceful atmosphere and quality of fishing.
